The story behind the answer

Dushanbe is the capital of Tajikistan. It became the administrative center in 1924 during the Soviet period and has since grown into the country’s political, economic, and cultural hub. The city sits in the Hissar Valley, framed by the Pamir-Alay mountains.

Fun fact to remember it: Dushanbe means “Monday” in Tajik, named after a Monday bazaar that once defined the settlement—think “day” in “Dushanbe” to recall it’s the main city. The other options are notable Tajik cities: Khujand (a historic Silk Road city in the north), Kurgan-Tyube (now called Bokhtar), and Garm (a town in the Rasht Valley), but none is the national capital.
