General Knowledge · Question
Who is a co-founder of music streaming service Spotify?
Answer
Daniel Ek
The story behind the answer
Daniel Ek is a co-founder (and longtime CEO) of Spotify, which he started in 2006 with Martin Lorentzon in Stockholm to offer a legal, convenient alternative to music piracy. Spotify launched publicly in 2008 and popularized on-demand streaming with a freemium model.
To avoid confusion: Sean Parker (of Napster/Facebook) later advised and invested in Spotify, helping its U.S. rollout, while Felix Miller and Michael Breidenbruecker were associated with Last.fm, a different music platform. Memory tip: Think “Swedish duo Ek + Lorentzon = Spotify,” while “Parker = Napster,” and “Miller/Breidenbruecker = Last.fm.”
