Who discovered the Law of Gravity?

The story behind the answer

Sir Isaac Newton formulated the universal law of gravitation, published in 1687 in his Principia. He showed that any two masses attract each other with a force proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them—explaining both falling apples and planetary orbits with one equation.
