Who discovered Penicillin?

The story behind the answer

Alexander Fleming discovered penicillin in 1928 when he noticed that a contaminating mold, Penicillium notatum, had created a bacteria-free halo on a Staphylococcus culture at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. He realized the mold secreted a substance that killed bacteria and named it “penicillin,” launching the antibiotic era.

Though Fleming made the discovery, it was later developed into a usable drug by Howard Florey and Ernst Chain in the early 1940s, saving countless lives, especially during World War II. Memory tip: “Fleming found the fungus that fights infection.” Don’t confuse
