Their large, mobile ear flaps (pinnae) act like satellite dishes, and about 18 ear muscles let them swivel and tilt to capture faint, high-frequency noises. Inside, their auditory system is tuned to pick up rapid vibrations that we miss.

This super-hearing evolved to help canids locate tiny, squeaking prey and communicate subtly within the pack.
