Who was Horus's father?

The story behind the answer

Osiris is correct because, in Egyptian myth, Horus is the son of Osiris and Isis. After Set murdered and dismembered Osiris, Isis reassembled him and conceived Horus, who later battled Set to avenge his father and reclaim the rightful kingship of Egypt. This father–son story underpins the mythic legitimacy of pharaohs: the living king was identified with Horus, and the deceased king with Osiris.

To remember it, think “Horus Honors Osiris”—both names share the “O,” and Horus’s whole saga is about honoring and avenging his father. Ra is the sun god and a powerful elder deity, Set is Horus’s rival and uncle, and Anubis is the jackal-headed god of mummification, not Horus’s father.
