Isis is correct: in Egyptian myth she is the supreme magician and archetypal mother. Using powerful spells, Isis reassembled and revived her slain husband Osiris and protected their son Horus, making her the patron of magic, healing, and maternity. Her name (Aset) is written with a throne sign, and she’s often shown nursing Horus—an image of royal legitimacy and maternal care.

Her cult spread across the Mediterranean in the Greco-Roman era, and amulets like the “knot of Isis” (tyet) promised protection. To remember: think “Isis raises Osiris” (magic) and “Isis nurses Horus” (motherhood). By contrast, Hathor centers on joy and love, Bastet on home and cats, and Selket (Serqet) on scorpion protection—not the full blend of magic and motherhood that defines Isis.
