Ptah is the patron god of craftsmen, architects, and artisans, centered in Memphis. In Memphite theology, he’s a creator who “conceives” the world in his heart and brings it to life by speech—an elegant image of designing and then executing a plan. He’s often shown wrapped like a mummy, holding a combined scepter, emphasizing stability and skilled craft. The Greeks identified him with Hephaestus, their god of smiths.
