Chemical Elements · Question
What element has the symbol 'B'?
Answer
Boron
The story behind the answer
Boron is the only element with the single-letter symbol B. The others need a second letter: Be is beryllium, Br is bromine, and Ba is barium. So if you see just “B,” it’s boron.
Boron (atomic number 5) is a metalloid in Group 13, showing traits between metals and nonmetals. It strengthens glass and ceramics (borosilicate/Pyrex), appears in detergents as borax, and forms ultra-hard boron carbide. Memory tip: “B is bare = Boron.” If there’s an extra letter, it points elsewhere—Be (beryllium), Br (bromine), Ba (barium).
