The story behind the answer

Algeria is correct: the flag’s crescent and star reflect the country’s Islamic heritage; green is traditionally linked to Islam, white to peace, and red to the sacrifices of the independence struggle. The design was used by the National Liberation Front and became official when Algeria gained independence from France in 1962.
