Jason and the Argonauts sought the Golden Fleece. King Pelias sent Jason to retrieve it from Colchis to prove his worth and reclaim his rightful throne. The Fleece, the glittering hide of a miraculous ram sent by Hermes, symbolized kingship and divine favor. It hung in a sacred grove, guarded by a sleepless dragon, and Jason succeeded only with the magic and cunning of Medea, daughter of King Aeëtes.
