It’s the frozen world that hosts the Rebel Alliance’s Echo Base and the opening battle with Imperial AT-AT walkers in The Empire Strikes Back. By contrast, Bespin is a gas giant known for Cloud City, Dagobah is a murky swamp where Luke trains with Yoda, and Endor is the forest moon seen in Return of the Jedi.

Scenes were filmed near Finse, Norway, in brutal blizzard conditions—some shots were taken just outside the hotel during real storms. The harsh environment introduced Wampas and tauntauns and set the film’s tone: the Rebels on the run, surviving against overwhelming odds.
