Unlike a temple dedicated to a single god, Rome’s Pantheon was intended for the entire Roman pantheon and possibly the imperial cult—not specifically Greek figures like Athena or Zeus (their Roman counterparts are Minerva and Jupiter).

Built by Agrippa (27–25 BCE) and magnificently rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian (c. 118–125 CE), the Pantheon’s vast dome and central oculus create a moving beam of light that once dramatized worship and ceremony.
