Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure on what part of the human body?

The story behind the answer

Rhinoplasty is surgery on the nose—rhin- means “nose” and -plasty means “to shape.” Surgeons perform it to change the nose’s appearance (size, shape, symmetry) and, in many cases, to improve breathing by reshaping internal structures. It’s distinct from septoplasty (straightening a deviated septum), though the two are often combined. By contrast, otoplasty is for ears, genioplasty for the chin, and cervicoplasty for the neck.

Remember it by thinking “rhinoceros” = “nose-horn”: rhino → nose. Historically, nasal reconstruction dates back to ancient India, where the surgeon Sushruta (ca. 6th century BCE) described forehead-flap techniques still conceptually used today. Modern rhinoplasty advanced rapidly after World War I, blending reconstructive and aesthetic principles to restore both form and function.
