The story behind the answer

Within the Rebel Alliance, Wedge rose to command the elite Rogue Squadron after Luke Skywalker, the unit formed from Red Squadron after Yavin. That distinguishes him from a nonexistent “Red Wing” role, from “Fleet Captain” (a capital-ship line officer, not a starfighter post), and from any Imperial TIE command (Wedge is firmly Rebel).
