The story behind the answer

Claudius (r. 41–54) is correct: in 43 AD he ordered General Aulus Plautius to invade Britain with four legions. Claudius himself crossed the Channel to oversee the final push, received the surrender of British leaders at Camulodunum (Colchester), and established Britannia as a Roman province.

Context: Julius Caesar had only raided Britain; Tiberius avoided new conquests, and Caligula staged a mock “invasion” at the Channel, reportedly collecting seashells.
