False. The Sun appears to rise in the east and set in the west because Earth spins from west to east. It does not rise from the north or south. The exact point on the horizon shifts with the seasons: due east at the equinoxes, northeast in summer and southeast in winter in the Northern Hemisphere (reversed in the Southern Hemisphere).

At high latitudes, the Sun can stay above or below the horizon for days (midnight sun or polar night) and trace a circle, but it still doesn’t rise from the north. Memory tip: “East is where Earth turns toward the Sun.” Equinox = due east/west; summer = rises toward your pole (NE in the north, SE in the south); winter = the opposite.
