In human biology, a circadium rhythm relates to a period of roughly how many hours?
Answer
24
The story behind the answer
24. A circadian rhythm is the body’s internal “about-a-day” cycle—circa (about) + diem (day)—that runs roughly every 24 hours. It’s governed by the brain’s suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), which synchronizes to light and darkness and coordinates sleep-wake patterns, hormone release (like melatonin and cortisol), body temperature, and metabolism.
Interesting note: in constant darkness, humans “free-run” at about 24.2 hours, showing the clock is internal but tuned by environmental time cues called zeitgebers (especially light). Disruptions from jet lag or shift work occur when external time and the internal clock fall out of sync. Memory tip: circadian = circa-day = about 24 hours.
