Who developed the first successful polio vaccine in the 1950s?

Jonas Salk developed the first successful polio vaccine in the 1950s, using an inactivated (killed) poliovirus. After massive field trials involving millions of children, it was declared “safe, effective, and potent” in 1955, marking a turning point against a disease that caused widespread paralysis and fear.
