What sacred bull was worshipped in Memphis?

The story behind the answer

Apis is correct. In ancient Memphis, the Apis bull was the living manifestation of the creator god Ptah. Chosen for specific sacred markings, the bull was honored with festivals and oracles, and upon death was mummified and buried in the Serapeum at Saqqara. Later, Apis was associated with Osiris as Osiris-Apis, which the Greeks adapted into the god Serapis.

To remember: Memphis = Ptah’s city; Apis = Ptah’s bull (note the shared “P”). Don’t confuse it with Mnevis, the sacred bull of Heliopolis linked to Ra; Hathor, a cow goddess of love and joy; or Osiris, the lord of the afterlife. Apis stood out as Memphis’s most celebrated living deity.
