Name the country

New Zealand is correct. The flag pairs the Union Jack with four red, white‑edged stars forming the Southern Cross—without the large Commonwealth Star that appears on Australia’s flag. Tonga and Vanuatu have very different designs, so the red Southern Cross is the key clue. Adopted in 1869 from a British Blue Ensign, the design reflects New Zealand’s Southern Hemisphere skies and maritime heritage. The country’s Māori name is Aotearoa, “Land of the Long White Cloud.” In 2015–16, New Zealand held a national referendum and chose to keep this flag. Memory tip: New Zealand has four stars and no big extra star; Australia has six white stars including one big one. Shorter name, fewer stars—and New Zealand’s stars are red.
