Flushing game is correct because these dogs are working close to the hunter, quartering through dense cover to push hidden birds into flight. Unlike pointers that freeze and “point” or retrievers that carry birds back, flushers actively bustle into brush, tails wagging, to make upland birds like pheasants or woodcock burst from cover within shotgun range. They don’t track long scent trails like hounds; their job is to produce an immediate flush.
