Golden Retriever — Dogs

Which dog breed is shown?

Which dog breed is shown?

Answer

Golden Retriever

The story behind the answer

This dog’s flowing golden coat with obvious feathering on the chest, legs, and tail, plus a broad, friendly face and drop ears, identifies it as a Golden Retriever. Labradors have a short, smooth coat and an “otter” tail without feathering; Flat-Coated Retrievers are typically solid black or liver with a sleeker head; Chesapeake Bay Retrievers have a harsher, oily, wavy coat in brownish “deadgrass” tones and often amber eyes.

Goldens originated in 19th‑century Scotland, developed by Lord Tweedmouth for retrieving waterfowl—valued for their soft mouth, eagerness to please, and trainability. They’re now beloved family pets and excel as therapy and assistance dogs. Memory tip: golden glow + feathered “flag” tail = Golden Retriever.
