The story behind the answer

Great Dane is correct. The dog shown has a towering, elegant frame with very long legs, a deep chest, a square muzzle with slight jowls, and a short, sleek coat—features typical of Great Danes. It lacks the wiry, bearded coat of an Irish Wolfhound, the ultra-slim, arched build of a Greyhound, and the massive, heavy-set body and broad head of an English Mastiff. If you see a harlequin pattern (white with irregular black patches), that’s a hallmark color of Danes.

Originating in Germany as the Deutsche Dogge, they were boar-hunting dogs and are now “gentle giants.” Danes often claim records for tallest individual dogs. Memory tip: “Great” for great height, and “harlequin = Dane.”
