Name this bird:

Answer

Great Horned Owl

The story behind the answer

This is a Great Horned Owl: note the prominent feather “horns” (ear tufts), bright yellow eyes, mottled brown body, and a neat white throat patch. Barred Owls lack ear tufts and have dark brown eyes; Great Gray Owls are larger, grayer, and tuftless with a rounder face; Eurasian Eagle-Owls have striking orange eyes and are found in the Old World, not the Americas.
