Crete is correct because the Minotaur was kept in the Labyrinth beneath King Minos’s palace at Knossos. According to myth, the inventor Daedalus built this maze to confine the creature, a half-man, half-bull born from Pasiphaë and the divine Cretan Bull. Athens was forced to send youths as tribute to be devoured until the hero Theseus slew the Minotaur.
