Who is the queen of the underworld?

The story behind the answer

Persephone is the queen of the underworld because she became Hades’ consort after he abducted her to his realm. While Hecate is a goddess of magic and crossroads, Demeter is the harvest goddess (and Persephone’s mother), and Aphrodite governs love and beauty—none of them rule the dead.

According to myth, Demeter’s grief over Persephone’s absence halted the harvest. A compromise let Persephone spend part of the year with Hades and part with her mother; the pomegranate seeds she ate bound her to return, explaining the seasons: her time below brings autumn and winter; her return brings spring and summer.
