Theseus is correct: he volunteered to sail from Athens to Crete as part of the human tribute to King Minos, entered Daedalus’s Labyrinth, and slew the half-man, half-bull Minotaur. With a sword and a ball of thread (the “clew”) given by Ariadne, he retraced his path and escaped, ending the cruel tribute.
