Wooden horse is correct because the “Trojan Horse” was a hollow structure that hid elite Greek soldiers. The Greeks feigned retreat, leaving the horse as a supposed offering to Athena. Persuaded by the Greek agent Sinon, the Trojans brought it inside their walls. That night, the hidden warriors emerged, opened the gates, and the returning Greek army captured Troy.

Remember it by the phrase “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts”—a warning born from this ruse. Often attributed to the cunning of Odysseus, the story is famously told in Virgil’s Aeneid. Today, “Trojan Horse” also describes deceptive threats in computing: something that looks helpful but hides danger within.
