Zeus is the king of the Olympian gods because, after leading his siblings to overthrow the Titans (including his father, Cronus), he claimed the sky and the throne of Mount Olympus. As ruler of thunder and lightning, he wields the thunderbolt and is often accompanied by the eagle. While his brothers are powerful—Poseidon rules the sea and Hades the underworld—Zeus presides over gods and humans alike, upholding law, order, and hospitality (xenia).
