The story behind the answer

They’re the small, hooded scavengers who roam Tatooine in towering sandcrawlers, salvaging and selling droids. In contrast, Tuskens (Sand People) are nomadic warriors wielding gaffi sticks and riding banthas; Banthas are the shaggy beasts themselves; and the Sarlacc is a stationary pit-dwelling creature in the Dune Sea.

Their sandcrawlers were originally offworld mining vehicles, later repurposed as mobile forts and workshops. Known for their glowing eye lenses and cry of “Utinni!,” they speak Jawaese and use ion blasters to disable droids for easy capture. Their sale of two particular droids to Owen Lars—after scavenging them in the desert—quietly kicks off the central events of the saga.
