What is the name of a famous medieval French heroine in the Hundred Years’ War?

Answer

Joan of Arc

The story behind the answer

She was a teenage peasant who, claiming visions from saints, inspired French troops and led them to pivotal victories in 1429, most famously lifting the siege of Orléans and enabling the coronation of Charles VII at Reims. Her leadership and symbolism shifted momentum in the Hundred Years’ War.

By contrast, Eleanor of Aquitaine lived two centuries earlier; Isabeau of Bavaria was a queen consort during the war but not a battlefield figure; Margaret of Anjou played a leading role in England’s later Wars of the Roses. Captured by Burgundians, tried by the English, and executed in 1431, she was later exonerated and canonized in 1920, becoming a lasting emblem of French unity and resistance.
