The story behind the answer

Robin is correct: robins are red/orange-breasted songbirds with gray-brown backs and a straight, medium bill. That rules out a raven (much larger, all black with a heavy, curved bill), a hummingbird (tiny, needle-billed nectar feeder that hovers), and a swan (a large, long‑necked waterbird).

Fun fact: the American Robin is actually a thrush (Turdus migratorius), while the European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) is in a different family—both share the name for their reddish breast. Robins are classic heralds of spring, famous for their dawn chorus and for tugging earthworms from lawns; their eggs are the iconic “robin’s egg blue.” Memory tip: think “red-breasted lawn singer” for robin; “giant black croaker” for raven; “tiny hovering nectar-drinker” for hummingbird; and “graceful long‑necked swimmer” for swan.
