Chewbacca is a towering, fur-covered native of Kashyyyk who communicates in Shyriiwook roars—traits of his species. This differentiates him from Trandoshans (reptilian bounty hunters like Bossk), Twi'leks (humanoids with head-tails called lekku), and Ewoks (small, teddy-bear-like forest dwellers from Endor).

Members of his species are famed for strength, technical skill, and fierce loyalty; Chewie’s “life debt” to Han Solo led to their legendary partnership aboard the Millennium Falcon. During the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War, many from his homeworld were enslaved by the Empire, underscoring their resilience and role in the Rebellion.
