Corded coat is correct because the dog’s hair forms long, rope-like strands—think “mop strings.” Unlike a Curly coat (tight, springy curls), a Shaggy coat (loose, unstructured length), or a Woolly coat (thick and fluffy), corded coats are organized into distinct, felted cords. Breeds like the Komondor, Puli, and Bergamasco naturally develop this look.

These cords result from the coarse outer coat twisting with the soft undercoat, which historically protected herding and guardian dogs from harsh weather and bites.
