Knights of the Round Table — Middle Ages

The story behind the answer

The image shows Arthurian knights gathered at a circular table—an unmistakable emblem of his court. The table’s round shape has no “head,” symbolizing that each companion is equal in honor and duty, bound by a chivalric code to defend the weak, uphold justice, and seek glory through noble deeds.

This fellowship grew from medieval romances: the “round table” motif was popularized by Wace (1155) and enriched by Chrétien de Troyes and, later, Sir Thomas Malory. Famous members include Lancelot, Gawain, Percival, and Galahad, whose quests—especially for the Holy Grail—blend Christian symbolism with knightly ideals. Their stories helped define medieval chivalry and still inspire modern literature and film.
