The story behind the answer

Tutankhamun, the “boy king” of the 18th Dynasty, had his nearly intact tomb (KV62) uncovered by archaeologist Howard Carter in 1922 in the Valley of the Kings, funded by Lord Carnarvon. Inside were over 5,000 artifacts, including the iconic gold mask, because the tomb escaped most ancient looting.

Remember: “Tut in ’22—tomb like new.” By contrast, Ramesses II’s and Thutmose III’s tombs were robbed in antiquity, and Smenkhkare’s burial hasn’t been found. Tutankhamun reigned briefly (c. 1332–1323 BCE) and died around age 19, but the discovery transformed our understanding of Egyptian art, burial goods, and daily life.
