What is the highest number of Michelin stars a restaurant can receive?

Three. The Michelin Guide awards a maximum of three stars to restaurants: one star for “a very good restaurant,” two for “excellent cooking, worth a detour,” and three for “exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey.” Inspectors judge on consistent quality of ingredients, mastery of technique, harmony of flavors, the chef’s personality on the plate, and reliability over time.

Remember it by thinking “1-2-3, then journey”: the scale stops at three—unlike hotels with five stars. Stars are awarded to restaurants (not chefs) and are re-evaluated annually.
